GAJA: DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
This wine takes its name from the Gromis family who, in the 19th century, owned a prized vineyard in the commune of La Morra; today, the Gaja family, from that same vineyard and a percentage of grapes from the Serralunga d’Alba cru, creates its Barolo DOCG, 100% from Nebbiolo grapes that, though from two different terroirs, manage to blend to perfection, creating an iconic wine. The 12 months of aging in barrique, followed by an additional 18 months in large oak barrels, frame this red wine that, like all the wines offered by Gaja, is powerful, very rich and suitable for long aging, identifying itself more than ever with the family’s philosophy and transferring its distinctive characters into the glass: energy, integrity and passion.
Bright ruby red, the nose presents all the aristocratic aromas of Nebbiolo made of dried flowers, violet and licorice, cherry and raspberry, a peremptory crescendo of aromatic herbs and, in the background, a mineral and iron soul. Savory and substantial on the palate, it has still young, biting tannins and a long fruity persistence that reveals balance and smoothness.
With important dishes such as game, both fur and feather, and aged cheeses, it is to die for with black truffles.
